When it comes to hunting with cartridges like the 300 Remington SA Ultra Magnum, having a bullet that performs as accurately and terminally as possible is paramount, particularly as hunting distances increase. Hornady developed its ELD-X Heat Shield-tipped bullets in its Precision Hunter ammo lineup to do just that. After development trials using advanced Doppler radar technology, Hornady engineers discovered that the extreme heat caused by air friction during bullet travel was melting most polymer ballistic tips. To solve this issue, Hornady topped its new Precision Hunter line with a hardened, polymer tip that resists the heat caused by bullet travel. This produces a far more-accurate bullet, allowing hunters to shoot with increased confidence. The high velocity of the Precision Hunter round allows for continual expansion upon impact inside of 400 yards, allowing for a weight-retention of 50-60 percent. At distances past 400 yards, the Heat Shield tip is driven back into the bullet, initiating expansion and allowing for a weight retention of 85-90 percent. Bullets weigh in at 178 grains.
